Iran plans "men-free" tourist island
Submitted by Matt on Thu, 2007-02-22 19:10
In the name of religious purity, no men allowed on an island for no other reason than that they are men! Story here. Seems that Iranian women need a "men-free" island in order to be safe to enjoy their vacations. And it's in line with Islamic law, too (seems they are picking and choosing when to implement it and when not to, aren't they?).
"Men-free". Like "Rodent-free", or "care-free". Men-free banks, men-free subway cars, men-free hotels, men-free islands...

hmm
I've heard a lot of bitching from feminists about the Islamic religion. Every chance they get, they complain about how sexist it is. I bet they won't be complaining about this one though.
Yea, but...
...who's gonna fix the toilets when they break?

And of course of the 70,000-80,000 americans who have converted to that religion since 9/11, women outnumber men by a ratio of 4:1 or 5:1. Go figure.

It should be noted though..
..that there's also plenty of "women-free" places in Iran. Still, it's surely not the inhuman place for women it's depicted as here.
This article is inappropriate.... Come on screener
People this has nothing to do with men's activism AT ALL. This is a religious issue entirely. Muslim countries separate their men and women for religious beliefs based on the fact that men and women should not mingle with one another. The assumption being that women are promiscuous by nature and that exposing themselves to men would simply be inviting impurity and sin into the "balance of life."
Come on guys -- as was stated earlier, if you so carefully screen articles for content and relevance, you surely must realize this one has nothing to do with the subject matter of this board. This IS NOT the same as the separation of the sexes that happens unfairly in the "egalitarian" West.
Sheesh!
