Boston Globe Columnists Attacks Commission on Status of Men - We Need Responses
From Marc A.: We need responses to this piece that criticizes the NH Commission on the Status of Men. Write to the editor at letter-at-boston.com
and copy the author at beam@globe.com, or use the form letter here. Letters must be 200 words or less. Excerpt:
'Who knew? New Hampshire claims to be the only state that has a Commission on the Status of Men. Lots of states have commissions fretting about women, says Dr. Joseph Mastromarino, but only the Granite State has the CSM. You can read its mission statement on the Web at www.nh.gov/csm. The commission is an outgrowth of the "men's rights" movement, which has lobbied for more equitable treatment of fathers in family court, among many other issues.
I never thought of New Hampshire as a place where men needed any kind of special protection. I was here in June for Laconia Bike Week, when super-manly motorcycle enthusiasts swarmed the highways, their pudgy legs wrapped around their ferocious, smoke-belching "hogs," a female appendage inevitably attached to the rear of their Harley. Tough guys don't drive Priuses, Alex!'

I read with concern your article by Mr. Beam that belittled the efforts of the Commission on the Status of Men in New Hampshire. This organization is a model for other such organizations in the USA. Why Mr. Beam has such an attitude about such an important organization – I cannot guess.
Perhaps he is not aware of the young male suicide rates in the USA and in New Hampshire. They happen to be >4X that of young women ( 20.7 per 100,000 population for the young men v.s. 4.4 per 100,000 population for the young women http://www.suicidology.org/associations/1045/files/2005StatesGENDER.pdf ).
Mr. Beam’s attempt at humor is misguided.
The condescending attitude towards the Commission on the Status of Men reflected in Mr. Beam’s article was not appreciated. Being male in the USA apparently is not easy, as the boys are slaughtering themselves.
But, for some unknown reason, Mr. Beam feels there is no need for “special protection” for men. But certainly, something needs to be done. And the Commission on the Status of Men in New Hampshire is a good first step.

Use the Online Form instead
Thanks for writing them, Oregon Dad. You're right, the email is bouncing for some reason. I used the online form instead and it worked. Registration is not required (whoever wrote that in the intial post was mistaken).
The form is at http://www.boston.com/news/globe/editorial_opinion/write/
Changed entry
Hmm, when I went to open that page yesterday it asked me to login or register. Now today it isn't. Anyway, I edited the O.P. to get rid of that "registration required" bit.
It's a few hours later.. let's see if my email bounces
Dear Mr. Beam,
In the column, you mentioned,
"The [life-span] disparity between the sexes - 5.3 years - has been declining since it peaked at about eight years in 1979."
I'm surprised that a misandrist such as yourself didn't perceive that statistic as evidence of bias against women: "Women no longer outlive men at a high enough rate..the government must take action now!!"
Or, if the numbers were reversed, you feminist-indoctrinated P.C. turkeys in the press would be stumbling all over yourselves shouting on page A1,
"Gap has only declined 3 years over a 30-year period!!!"

I am concerned though..
Where does that 10-year number come from?? Even Farrell has never given a number that high (at least not that I know of). This kind of stuff makes us look bad. The MSM will mainly only print information pertaining to our movement when they can find an opportunity to shoot us down, so we must not provide them with any targets. As opposed to feminism, where the burden of proof is on others to prove feminists' nonsensical claims to be wrong, we in the MR movement must proves ourselves correct - the burden of proof is on us.

forgot to mention..
I just sent my email to beam@globe.com so far.
Guess I shouldn't have called the guy a turkey but I was pissed off.

You're right Ax
We do need to stay up to speed on our stats or else they use it against us. Great letter, and I'm glad to sent that to Beam. We need to confront people like that every chance we get. Thanks.
